Every FlightDex feature, and which plan it is on
FlightDex is a flight tracker for Android. This page lists what it does today, one feature at a time, and says plainly whether each part is on the free plan or needs FlightDex Pro. Where a feature has its own page, the link goes there.
The main features
Flight delay alerts Pro
With Pro, FlightDex watches your flight and tells you when something changes: a delay, a gate change, a cancellation, a different type of aircraft before you leave, the departure and the landing. You choose which kinds of alert you want, and how big a delay has to be before it is worth a notification. How FlightDex alerts work.
Sharing a flight Free
Send someone a link and they can follow your flight in any browser, with no app and no account. Your booking code, seat and full name are never on the page, and you can take a link back whenever you like. Creating a link, and opening one, are free for anyone. When you have Pro, anyone following your flight in the app gets its alerts, whatever their own plan. What the person you share with sees.
Boarding passes Free
Scan a pass, or import a screenshot, a PDF or an Apple Wallet .pkpass file. Each pass is encrypted on your phone and never uploaded, and at the gate FlightDex draws the barcode again with no connection needed. How FlightDex keeps boarding passes.
Flight log and Passport Free
Your record of the flights you have flown, with your totals and stamps, kept for good on the free plan. Imported flights go straight in. A tracked flight adds itself once FlightDex sees it land: with Pro, which follows it live, as it lands; on the free plan, it can add itself when you open the app after the landing and its status is refreshed. The analysis on top of the record, such as your on-time history, is Pro too. More about the flight log and Passport.
Importing your flights Free
If you logged flights in another app, FlightDex can read that app’s export file and add the flights to your Passport. Before anything is saved, a preview shows what will happen to every row. Which apps you can import from.
Finding a flight by its route Free
Coming in the next app update. Don’t know the flight number? Choose By route when you add a flight, pick the two airports and the day, from yesterday up to about 11 months ahead, and tap your flight in that day’s list. The free plan has 1 route search a day and Pro has 10; a route and day already searched in the last 24 hours is answered without using one. Each search shows one page of flights, so for a flight that is not listed, search by its number.
Also in the app
A check-in reminder Free
Coming in the next app update. 24 hours before the scheduled departure of a flight you are on, FlightDex reminds you: “UA328 leaves in 24 hours. If you haven’t checked in yet, your airline’s app or website will show when you can.” It is on every plan and on by default, with its own switch on the You tab. It is set on your phone, so nothing leaves the phone to make it. It is not sent for flights you are watching or following, or for a flight added less than 24 hours before it leaves. If you have set quiet hours, it arrives without a sound.
Add flights to your calendar Free
Coming in the next app update. Turn on Add flights to my calendar on the You tab and choose one of your calendars, or On this phone only. The upcoming flights you are taking go into it, not the ones you are watching or following, and FlightDex keeps each event up to date with its times, terminal, gate and status from what the app already has on your phone, so on the free plan an event is as current as the app was when you last opened it. An event never carries your booking code, your name or your seat, and nothing is sent to FlightDex to write it. If you edit or delete one of its events, FlightDex leaves it alone from then on. It is on every plan and off until you turn it on, and the phone asks for calendar access only then.
A home-screen widget Free
A widget for your next flight, so the essentials are on your home screen without opening the app.
The live map Pro
A full-screen map of a flight in the air, with the aircraft’s last reported position.
Airport boards Pro
Arrivals and departures boards for an airport, for when you are meeting someone or waiting on a connection.
Your year in review Free
A look back at your year of flying, as a card you can share.
Trip notes and packing lists Free
Notes and a packing list for each trip, kept with the trip’s flights.
Quiet hours Pro
Part of Pro’s alerts, and off until you turn them on. During quiet hours, alerts still arrive and wait in your notification shade; they just do not make a sound.
Export Pro
The flights you have tracked in FlightDex as a CSV or PDF file, made on your phone, ready for an expenses claim or simply for keeping.
